About Our Skin…Did You Know?

About Our Skin…Did You Know?

Our skin is a reflection of our inner health and well being. It functions as a major organ of elimination of toxins and impurities for our body. It also is a valuable form of body communication providing us with information about the state of our health. Our skin can indicate when our filtration and elimination systems (liver, kidneys, colon), are overloaded or functioning well.

When our skin appears less than vibrant and clear it is a sign of imbalance and can possibly be an indication of disease.

The foods we eat, how we handle our stresses, the quality of the water that we use will reflect almost immediately in the condition of our skin.

Our liver is required to process all the synthetic chemicals in our environment such as the fragrances and artificial coloring that are in household cleaners, deodorizers, laundry and dishwashing detergents as well as in body care products.

How can we help our bodies perform better?

First -
a.

Develop an eating plan of whole foods that suit your body system and body type. Consult with a nutritional consultant if you sense you need guidance.
b.
Eliminate as many synthetic pollutants from all aspects of your life as you can.

Second -

Drink raw apple cider vinegar (1 capful of Braggs brand with ½ -1 tsp organic raw honey in 1 c. warm /not boiling water at least each morning and evening as well.

Third -

Throughout the day, drink purified water with a squeeze of the juice of fresh organic lemon.

How much water?   1 oz. per pound of body weight
Note:

drinking a whole glass of water at once does much less for you than sipping your water through out the day. That is the key to keeping your cells hydrated.

The Skin - its capacity for absorption

Absorption of chemicals (natural or synthetic) through the skin depends on several factors. First, everyone’s skin is different. The condition of one’s skin, hydration level , pore size and density influence absorbability. Our skin’s characteristics vary over our body and with our age.

Our skin is composed of several layers. The stratum corneum is the primary layer. It serves as a protective barrier to keep out materials which do not belong in our skin, body cells and body system in general. Thin skin is more readily penetrated by toxins and impurities than thick/dense skin. Wet skin tends to absorb chemicals more readily. Different materials vary in absorbability dependent on the nature of their chemical make up. Numerous body care products on the market incorporate ingredients known as penetration enhancers to assist/force the absorption of ingredients that the skin will not readily receive.

According to the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep Report, penetration enhancers alter (damage) the cell structure and thus allow other harmful ingredients and impurities to enter the cells.

Garden of Eve products do not contain any penetration enhancers. Our products only contain ingredients of nature that the body naturally welcomes.
